What is Therapy?
Therapy is a process that helps you in different areas of your life like relationships, career, emotional well-being, personal growth, and so on. You and your therapist/psychologist will address different areas of your distress to find the best approach to manage them better and improve your mental health.
I have friends/family I can talk to. How will therapy be of use to me?
Talking to family and friends is certainly helpful, but counselling/therapy is designed to help you understand behavioral patterns, make sense of emotional experiences, and set realistic goals for your progress in a holistic, scientific and systematic manner in order to provide you with the best care for your mental health.
How will therapy help?
Therapy helps you with situations of distress like anxiety, grief, work stress, and relationship issues or prepare you better for upcoming distress like unwanted change, separation, leadership roles etc. Your therapist will equip you with the tools and techniques you need to ensure your mental and emotional well-being as you navigate through these struggles.
How will the therapist be assigned to me?
To ensure that you get the best of our services, Praan takes a client-centric approach to mental health counselling. You can choose a therapist from our pool of counsellors and if your desired counsellor is unavailable, we will suggest another counsellor who is equally competent to work with you.
How much time is needed for me to go through therapy?
The duration of your therapy depends on the issue, its intensity, and your own involvement. However, we recommend at least five therapy sessions as it helps the client and the counsellor to dig a bit deeper and come up with healthy strategies to make the intended progress.
How should I prepare for my first therapy session?
Just be open and ready to discuss your problems with your counsellor. If something is not working for you, communicate the same with your counsellor. The first session is about building comfort and rapport with your counsellor. So help your counsellor build that with you.
I am able to manage my stress, do I still need therapy?
Therapy is never about questioning your ability to manage your stress/problems. It is about empowering you to manage that same problem better. Therapy gives you a comprehensive view of the problem and a fresh, non-judgmental perspective which will help improve your mental and emotional well-being.
Will my identity be kept confidential?
Absolutely! Confidentiality in counselling is protected by law. Except for your therapist/counsellor, no one will be privy to the information you share with Praan and it will be used only to improve our services upon your consent to provide you with the best mental health care and support you need.
What if I am not happy/satisfied with my therapist/counsellor?
Since all of us have different mental health needs and there are different styles of counselling, it is possible that you don’t find your counsellor the right fit for you. If that happens, you can simply choose to continue with another counsellor from our pool of available counsellors to get the results you want from your therapy sessions.
What all mental health problems can therapy help me with?
Therapy can help you with emotional, behavioral, and cognitive problems. Some common mental health struggles addressed through therapy are anxiety, depression, relationship troubles, marital problems, inability to concentrate, hyperactivity, career stress, lack of productivity, mood swings, anger, adjustment issues, lack of self-esteem, suicidal tendencies, LGBTQIA+ issues, trauma, abuse, grief, and loss.
Can I reschedule my therapy session?
Yes, you can reschedule the session anytime before 12 hours of the session slot. After that, you will not be able to reschedule the session. For more info on rescheduling or cancellation check our policies above.
I haven’t used my therapy package, what to do now?
You can hold on to the unused package and make use of them for your follow up sessions within the allotted time as mentioned in our policies.
What is the difference between Counselling and Clinical Psychology?
Clinical psychology deals with severe mental health disorders while counselling psychology focuses on less severe issues and everyday challenges. Clinical psychologists use various therapies to address and manage the client's emotional distress and counselling psychologists focus more on person-centered, strengths-based approaches to address specific issues and foster personal growth.
